As of April 1, it has now been 2 years since I started this blog. Yup. I'm an anniversary kind of guy (that my wife loves, by the way). It's more of an engineering thing. I remember pretty much anything with numbers--dates, phone numbers, addresses, airport frequencies, credit card numbers. You get the idea.
With that being said, the progress on the fastback would not be where it is had it not been for the blogosphere. Maybe more specifically, the bloggers HERE. The ones who have a Mustang they are attempting to bring back to life or have done so and are enjoying them on the road.
Then on the other hand, I wonder how long can I keep this up? Both the blog and the car. Some of you fellow Mustang bloggers have been at it for years...several years...with over 100,000 views. That's persistence on both counts. The question is this: can I match that kind of persistence? As I have often said in these posts, "We'll see."
But I can say that I have made more progress on the fastback mainly because of the blog. I know I said it last year on the 1st anniversary of "resurrection", but I'll say it again. The support, encouragement, and the amount of high-quality documentation in words and pictures has helped my own restoration. And as humbling as it's been, others have also said the same about my blogs.
But we're not here for ego trips are we. We're here because we love our Mustangs and we appreciate others who love their Mustangs.
I'm just hoping one day in the future (whenever that is) I'll be at Carlisle and see a Mustang and say, "I know that car from the blog" and finally get to meet some of you face-to-face.
Until then, it's time to get on with the restoration process. And thanks for going along for the ride with me.

Dennis,
ReplyDeleteFor my part, I can't believe it's been two years! I encourage you to keep on keeping on with both the Mustang and the blog. These open-format treasure troves of information and illustration are a benefit to so many and one of the few ways the true core of the hobby can share and enjoy the experiences of others and build and maintain the kinships that so often come. I absolutely expect to meet you some day, and I look forward to it. Even better if it happens to be when you're out and about in your Mustang. It will be a good day! Here's to the next two years!
Thanks Sven. The blog and the friends I've made have been golden along with as you say "the treasure troves of information and illustrations". I'm looking forward to the progress ahead in the next two years.
DeleteMy blog is so old I'm waiting for someone else to restore the same car so I don't have too many do overs. :-) We all enjoy the encouragement and it really helps me to stay motivated. Thanks Dennis!
ReplyDeleteThanks James. Motivation is a big factor here and you've been a part of it as well!
DeleteCongrats on 2 years Dennis. A lot of guys don't even get out of the gate in two years much less get as far as you have. You have much to be proud of. My blog is probably the primary reason I continued on even through some times when completion felt hopelessly out of reach. I actually finished tasks to complete blog entries because I didn't want to disappoint my readers and your blog shows you to be of the same mind. These blogs serve many purposes the very least of which is "ego". Continue on my friend, and just remember to enjoy the next two years.
ReplyDeleteYou have been an inspiration for me Alex on many levels. Motivation is the big part to keep me going. I see a fellow Mustang blog and think, "Hmmm....I can do that." BTW...what's going to be your next Mustang project since you 'vert is almost done???
DeleteWeeellll... let's just say that I have some 3 point seat belts on order as well as a quartz clock conversion kit. *wink*
DeleteTwo years. I have had my own car for about two years now, but only been working on it for about one. I didn't start my blog until I decided I needed to share my triumphs (and failures). Your blog was one of the first ones I found. Alex's was the first one, yours was two or three. I can't remember if it was Sven's or yours next. You have made great progress and have helped me figure out how do some things. Sometimes by showing me what not to do :) I think it really is like Alex says, I work on the car just to do entries sometimes. These have been the best resources I have found for actually showing how to restore these great cars. It's great to give back to the community and someday I hope to see all these cars and people in person. Here's to two years and more!
ReplyDeleteYour doing better time-wise than I did. I will have my car for 8 years on the 17 (?) of this month. From 2005 to 2011 I didn't accomplish much except pushing it around the garage, removing the engine/trans, and accumulating parts. The one thing the blogging has done is given me goals especially watching everyone else's progress. We're all in this together and that's one thing that keeps me going! Thanks for the comments!
